PCME is an accredited provider specializing in innovative continuing medical education solutions.
Sexual health has been identified as a growing priority in improving patient care. In 2005, the World Health Organization recommended that "providers should receive training in human sexuality, to help them better address the sexual health needs of their clients." Despite this impetus, recent data show that only 3% of physicians actually ask about sexuality in their patients. Several medical associations have identified the improvement of physician communication skills as an educational priority, as many clinicians feel they have received improper training in this area. Meanwhile, data show that routine evaluation of sexual health has the potential to decrease morbidity and mortality, and enhance the well-being and longevity of patients' lives.
This program will give health care providers an enhanced understanding of the value of sexual health on patients' outcomes and quality of life.
Clinicians will discover that a thorough understanding of patients' sexual histories, combined with appropriate management and counseling strategies, will ultimately contribute to an increase in positive clinical outcomes.
